Brainspotting · Georgia and California

Brainspotting, explained plainly

Brainspotting is a therapy approach that uses where you look to help you process what you feel. Stephanie is trained in Brainspotting Levels 1–3, plus Expansion and Child-Centered Brainspotting.

Brainspotting may be worth exploring if

You do not need to have it all figured out before reaching out.

  • You have talked about something many times and it still feels the same
  • You carry trauma and would rather not retell it in detail
  • Anxiety or distress shows up in your body before your mind can name it
  • You feel stuck in a pattern you understand but cannot change

What a session can feel like

Brainspotting sessions tend to be quiet. With your therapist alongside you, you bring an issue to mind, notice where you feel it in your body, and then rest your gaze on a particular spot while your attention stays with whatever comes up.

It is largely self-directed. You do not need to narrate everything as it happens, and you stay in control of the pace. Some people notice memories, images or physical sensations; others simply notice a shift in how intense something feels. There is no right way for it to go.

How it fits with the rest of therapy

Brainspotting is one tool, not the whole of therapy. Stephanie uses it alongside other integrative, evidence-based approaches, and only when it suits what you are working on and how you want to work.

Whether it is a good fit for you is something to explore together. Your consultation is a chance to ask questions before deciding anything.

Questions people ask

Is Brainspotting like hypnosis?

No. You are awake, aware and in control throughout, and you can pause or stop at any time.

How is Brainspotting different from talk therapy?

Talk therapy works mainly through conversation and insight. Brainspotting works more directly with what you notice in your body while you focus on an issue, so it does not depend on finding the right words. Many people benefit from both.

Do I have to use Brainspotting if I come to therapy?

No. It is one of several approaches Stephanie uses. You can ask about it, try it, or choose other ways of working.
